Message from Mayor Stefan Visotschnig

The biggest economic and social event in Southern Carinthia opens its doors from Friday 2 September to Monday 5 September 2022.

About 330 exhibition slots have been assigned – this shows the great interest of the local economy, but also of exhibitors from elsewhere.

For centuries, it has been impossible to imagine southern Carinthia’s economic life without the Bleiburger Wiesenmarkt. Especially in economically difficult times, the Wiesenmarkt again brings a positive upswing.

In keeping with the old tradition of visiting the market on the Sunday of the Wiesenmarkt “dressed up” in your “Sonntagsg`wand”, this year Sunday will once again be declared “Dirndl and Lederhosen Day”.

For centuries, the Wiesenmarkt has offered the Bleiburg economy the opportunity to present its products to a broad public. That is why I am particularly pleased that there has been a steady increase in the number of local exhibitors (crafts/trade) in recent years.

The Wiesenmarkt also presents itself in a modern way that brings people together.

A major guarantee for the success of our Wiesenmarkt is the lively activity in the amusement park with its great fun and experience factor. The great quality of the culinary delicacies in the festival tents of the local restaurateurs, the top offers in Carinthia’s largest grocer’s market with over 2,300 m of stalls and the current offers in the trade exhibition are particularly worthy of mention. This makes Bleiburg the largest shopping centre in Carinthia for three days!

Special attention was paid to the agricultural machinery exhibition. The latest achievements in agricultural technology will be presented by Carinthia’s largest agricultural machinery dealers.

In the car exhibition, the latest models are on display.

There are certainly well over a thousand workers employed directly or indirectly at the Wiesenmarkt!

Safety is a top priority at the Wiesenmarkt. We are constantly striving to improve safety standards. We work closely with the police, ambulance and fire brigade.

The “Alpe-Adria Exhibition” has been held for 25 years. This year with exhibitors from Slovenia, Italy, Croatia, Styria, Lower Austria and Carinthia.  Experience a culinary and linguistic tour through the entire Alps-Adriatic region in this tent. It is also impossible to imagine social life without the Wiesenmarkt.

For centuries, the Wiesenmarkt has been a meeting place for friends, acquaintances and neighbours from all over Carinthia as well as the neighbouring regions of Austria, Italy and Slovenia.

This year, too, the Postbus shuttle will take visitors to the market and back home again at low cost. There is plenty of parking space at the gates of the town. I would ask those arriving by car to park their vehicles in good time in front of the market site in order to avoid traffic jams in the vicinity of the market site.

On market days, there is a general driving ban for trucks over 7.5 t on the Bleiburg through road (from the Einersdorf roundabout to the sports ground).

Combine your visit to the Wiesenmarkt with a visit to the exhibitions “Kiki Kogelnik” and “Werner Berg” in the Werner Berg Museum.

I am convinced that this year, there will be a Wiesenmarkt like in the past.

Therefore, on behalf of the municipality of Bleiburg, I warmly invite you to the Bleiburger Wiesenmarkt 2022. I wish all exhibitors successful business and the visitors enjoyable hours at the “Wies’n” and in the cultural city of Bleiburg.
