To the ringing of bells, the Freyung makes its ceremonial entrance onto the fairground. The parade proceeds from the Grenzlandheim via Postgasse to 10 October Square and from there to the fairground.

Escorted by halberdiers, the mayor reads out the historic text of the 1578 charter establishing the annual market in front of the market hut on the fairground.

Following the welcome address by the councillor responsible for the market, representatives of the Chamber of Commerce, Chamber of Agriculture and political institutions deliver their greetings. The official opening then takes place, including the traditional tapping of the beer barrel.

For more than six centuries, the Bleiburger Wiesenmarkt has been an important economic factor for the region. The Alpe-Adria Exhibition continues the cross-border market tradition and brings together exhibitors from Austria, Slovenia, Croatia and Italy.

It features around 30 Slovenian-speaking producers, restaurants and culinary businesses from bilingual Carinthia.
