The historical Freyungszug and the procession with “Gschirr und Gscherr” with tens of colourfully decorated floats, traditional costume bearers, brass band music, guests of honour and the executive is one of the highlights of the Wiesenmarkt. The procession moves from the Grenzlandheim through the city centre to the Marktwiese (market meadow).
The Wiesenmarkt parade is an absolute MUST for every visitor to the market. The parade is led by the market representative and market master. The Jauntaler Trachtenkapelle and the guests of honour follow. Afterwards, groups of traditional costumes from all parts of Carinthia and the neighbouring countries march in their beautiful traditional costumes.
This is followed by the “leading lady” of the parade – the Freyung with the Freyungsgruppe consisting of the herald in knight’s armour on horseback, the town judge with the Freyung and the Landsknechts as “bodyguards”.
Once again this year, many traditional costume wearers and customs groups from all parts of Carinthia, but also from Slovenia, Italy and Croatia will take part in the procession. The historical part is followed by the “modern era” with the big procession with “G’schirr und G’scherr”.
Bleiburg businesses and exhibitors from the Marktwiese take part in the procession with colourfully decorated floats and various attractions. Small gifts are distributed to the spectators.
Among the adults, the “beery” gifts are very popular – among the youngsters, there is a riot around the free tickets from the fairground entertainers.
